  • Stay away from HostSimplex.com
Stay away from *Hostsimplex.com*. I signed up for the a year special and without checking into the company and I went ahead and registered on August 16, 2008. A couple weeks went by and I wanted to change some information and domain on my website and they wouldn’t let me delete that account and reopen. The reason was is I wanted to reset the stats and other information so they wouldn’t show up on my domain. Anyway, the support is horrible. All they want to do is make excuses. The website clearly says that if you are unhappy with our service within 30 days you can get a refund. No questions asked. I have been in email for almost a week regarding this issue. I sent a Billing ticket on September 3, 2008 and to this day… No reply. I called the 866 number… No reply… I try to use the support chat on the website… No Reply! Used the Support Ticket and they won’t help. I used the member forum… It ended up in war with other users. I finally go a hold of someone yesterday and they couldn’t help me because he was a support team member and I needed to talk to billing. I asked for the Owner and this person told me he was off until Tuesday. I know it is just but I feel like they are falsely advertising the 30 day money back guarantee. In each of these tickets that I sent I asked to have my account deleted and canceled. They still haven’t honored my request for that. I also demanded a refund of my and still haven’t responded. I tried to catch the website and now it is down. It has been in this state since 0200 EST. Stay away from HostSimplex.com…
  • Please comment on my short list of hosts
I have a short list of hosts I'm considering for either my main or backup host. I am currently with A Small Orange in Atlanta who seems to be fairly stable. Here's the list: iHubNet.com MidPulse.com SharkSpace.com AspirationHosting.com I like that iHubNet has their own servers. The comments that folks like Matt A make on this board to be helpful have caught my attention. My web site has a domain and two parked domains. About 50 subdomanins and is typically 300 to 450MB in size. It uses about that much in bandwidth a month, mostly from clients downloading audio mp3's of voiceover work. The site staying online is important. I just don't seem to read much on this board about some of these hosts and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them? Thanks in advance!
  • Using php to "create" balanced static hosting
My host [in USA] that I only use for php/mysql points to my static content CentOS server [in Japan] in my house connected to my CATV. At least for testing (outside my house) I can't notice any bad latency since my USA host just serves up small HTML code dynamically and the static content (up to 100k-500k per file) is already available inside Japan. I want to keep (and scale up, if needed) my php/mysql in USA due to language and other issues so I'm hoping (?) as the number of users goes up (or any other issues I can't think of now) latency does not become a problem just for the html. Any comment on that? My next step to "create" balanced static hosting in Japan is to get two different VPS accounts here in Japan (on two different physical servers) and use php to randomly select which VPS will provide the static content when a user logs in. PHP will also test to make sure the static server is active. If it is down the code will direct to the other server. If my project grows I will - on the Japan side - get more VPSs or even multiple dedicated servers and use the php to manage this "balanced" system like I described. I looked around and could not find any anyone else trying this solution. Is this idea good or really crazy? Thanks

  • Shared Vs Semi Dedicated?
What are the advantages of a semi dedicated account over a shared account. So far it just looks like a bigger shared account (though comparable when you compare it to an oversold shared account). It's more expensive though so does it relieve some of the load issues (and CPU/memory limits) placed in a shared account?
